The Church Fathers on this verse

2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

He will establish those who rest peacefully near His mountain, and they shall receive His blessings. In due season, He will provide rain, and those rains will be the fruitful showers promised in the blessings outlined in Deuteronomy.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will bestow a blessing in the vicinity of my holy mountain, and in due time, I will pour out rain upon you; these shall be rains of blessing. This embodies the teachings of the holy Apostles, which provide a complete outpouring of grace to the souls of the faithful. The sacred Scriptures frequently refer to doctrine as rain, as evidenced by the Prophet Isaiah, who speaks on God's behalf to the ancient vine, declaring, ‘They shall not be cut off, neither shall they be dug up: and we will command the cloud, that it shall not rain upon them’ (Isaiah 5:6).
