Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

For this reason, the Lord declares to Adonai the Sovereign: If it was not in the fervor of My passion that I proclaimed against foreign nations and against all Edom, it is because they have, with joyful hearts, claimed My inheritance for themselves, while dishonoring their own souls to wage war upon it. The pride of the Edomites and other peoples, who have treated My land with contempt, rejoiced in its ruin, and aspired to seize it and subjugate its inhabitants, has caused Me great sorrow. Therefore, I have declared judgment upon them.
