One Church Father comments on this verse

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

To the remaining tribes, from the eastern frontier to the western frontier, there is one for Benjamin. From the eastern boundary of Benjamin to the western boundary lies one for Simeon. Continuing from the eastern boundary of Simeon to the western boundary, there is one assigned to Issachar. Beyond the eastern limit of Issachar to the western limit, one is allotted to Zebulun. From the eastern margin of Zebulun to the seacoast, there is one for Gad. Beyond the territory of Gad, the southern boundary at midday extends from Tamar to the waters of Meribah at Kadesh, marking the inheritance stretching toward the great sea. This land you will allocate to the tribes of Israel by lot, and these are their inheritances, declares the Lord God. The term "one" at the end of the mentions of five and seven tribes suggests inheritance, possession, or heritage; Aquila and Symmachus interpret it in the neuter form τὸ δριον, denoting a boundary.
