John Chrysostom

God had ordained a specific duration for Jacob's earthly existence, allowing him to depart only after receiving enough comfort regarding the sorrows he had faced throughout his life. However, if you prefer not to overwhelm your mind with an abundance of details, we can postpone further discussion for another occasion and conclude our conversation for now. Concurrently, we encourage you to give your attention to these words, to keep them close to your heart, and to reflect continually on the steadfastness of the righteous, their benevolence, and their unwavering faith in God's promises.

They did not falter in their faith despite the circumstances that followed the divine assurances; instead, they remained resolute, trusting in the power of the One who had made those promises, and through their endurance, they were exalted. Consider this righteous man who, after years of mourning for Joseph, finally beheld him in a position of authority over the land of Egypt. Joseph, after enduring slavery, imprisonment, and numerous trials, was entrusted with the governance of the entire nation. A review of the accounts in Scripture reveals that all virtuous individuals have faced trials and, through these tribulations, received significant divine assistance. Therefore, if we desire to be favored by God, we should not let impatience consume us during these tests, nor should we lose heart when they arise. Instead, we should rejoice and be uplifted, fortifying ourselves with faith, fully aware that embracing all challenges with gratitude will enhance our experience of God's providential care. May we all be granted the grace to live virtuously in this life and attain the blessings of the age to come, through the love and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory, power, and honor with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
