The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The prophet notes that even the most ferocious animals show concern for their offspring; however, the overwhelming suffering has caused the people of Zion to lose sight of their own essence. Most have been oppressed, while the remainder have been taken captive into servitude, leaving only a small number behind, resembling a solitary bird lost in a desolate place. The prophet further illustrates the devastation brought on by hunger.
