These words of Divine Wisdom affirm the notion we have put forth regarding the Lord’s refusal to grant pardon to the wicked. We assert that their pleas arise not from genuine and voluntary repentance, but rather from self-pity. Can we anticipate true and voluntary repentance from those who, not due to weakness or a natural inclination towards sin, but out of hatred, rejected the counsel of wisdom? They cannot be deemed ungodly merely for lacking the strength to resist temptations; it is not an innate tendency to choose the wrong over the right. Instead, their will has been decisively aimed at evil; they actively desired and sought to oppose the guidance of wisdom, even ridiculing such counsel and admonitions that they heard from wise teachers. This reflects a mindset distinctly associated with the adversary.
