Ephraem the Syrian

Those who place their confidence in humanity will not experience any blessings, but those who have faith in the Lord will find salvation.

Nikolaj Velimirovic

20th centuryChurch Father

Man cannot save himself from the flood. Only God can save him. God is the Lord of the clouds; He tames the passions. He is in truth the protection from above. Let us run to Him and take refuge under His mantle. To a beggar, a dog appears like a lion, but at the feet of the master of the house, the dog is only like an empty sack.

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

A wise individual brings joy to their parents and, when in a position of leadership, brings honor to their nation; on the contrary, a flatterer deceives those around him, and a wicked person incites anger within the community. Even a wise person who keeps company with a fool cannot find tranquility, and is often despised by the unjust. The integrity and fairness of a leader influence their closest allies and the well-being of the populace; similarly, a solid education shapes a son's future, and discipline influences the conduct of a servant. It should be clear that the unjust creates strife among others, brings shame upon themselves, and harbors hatred towards their own spirit. In contrast, the righteous attain honor and stability by relying on the Lord's protection, while the wicked find the path of righteousness repugnant, resulting in the righteous being loathed by the unrighteous.
