John Chrysostom
This individual will meet his end alongside those who face no punishment, and from his overflowing abundance, he shall overflow with wrath. The one ensnared by wrongdoing, escaping punishment, shall undergo similar fates; he who associates with murderers is indeed a murderer. Observe how intensely he portrays death, saying, "With whom together he perishes." It is dreadful to die bearing a wretched reputation. They were filled, he remarks, with lawlessness, which he refers to as ‘abundance,’ wherein the flesh was evident, linked to the deeds of the flesh, and devoid of life-giving grace. And they perished for folly, not for satisfying carnal desires, since he had a legitimate wife to fulfill such desires. Thus, let no one blame nature; instead, let him hold accountable his own excesses, for this does not stem from the essence of nature.
