When you postpone fulfilling your promise, you are, in essence, not fulfilling it. A promise to God represents a plea for His favors alongside a commitment to express gratitude, often through an offering. Thus, when the blessings you sought are realized, it becomes an act of ingratitude to delay your thanks. At times, individuals may overlook their obligations out of carelessness, or they may, in their pride, attribute their fortune solely to their own merits, failing to acknowledge the true Source of their blessings as they regard themselves as the authors of their prosperity.

Another form of this sin, while slightly less severe, is akin to arrogance: some acknowledge God as the giver of good gifts yet believe they are entitled to such blessings due to their own wisdom or virtues. They view themselves as deserving of divine grace and fail to consider the possibility of being unworthy of God's favor. To guard against this mindset and ensure that your prayers are not considered sinful, the Scriptures provide guidance in the words of the Lord: "Take heed to yourself, lest you forget the favors of the Lord your God, and forget His commandments, and His statutes, and His righteousness, which today I command you. When you eat and are filled, and build good houses and dwell in them, and when you have many sheep and oxen, and have much silver and gold, and possess all things, and your bins are full, see that your heart does not fail, and that you do not forget the Lord your God" (Deuteronomy 8:11-14). You neglect the Lord when you neglect your own humility: recognizing your own frailty and the supremacy of God will help you remember to render Him the honor due to Him.
