One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

You ignore my messengers, declares the Lord, as if they are silent. I communicate through them, and I will ensure my message comes to fruition rather than remain merely spoken, making you witnesses to the reality of those words. Thus, once again articulating the same truth in different terms, those who criticized the Prophets claimed they did not predict the present accurately but rather made false claims about what would occur in the distant future. Their fear of the imminent realization of these prophecies leads them to declare: “All my words shall not continue therefore, that I will speak: for I will speak the word, and I will do it, saith the Lord Adonai.”
