The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

The return of Christ will draw together all peoples across the cosmos, much like fish being gathered in a vast ocean. All that the world has possessed, the Church has inherited.

On the phrase, "The Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice" (Psalms 96:1), and regarding the statement, "when He delivers up the kingdom to God and the Father" (1 Corinthians 15:24), as well as concerning the sacrament of baptism, Hales refers to an anonymous writer also credited with the works "On the Serpent" and "On Seals." Dupin attributes these writings to Bishop Severian of Gavala, while Lampe links them to Blessed Theodoret of Cyrus, noting that this interpretation closely resembles that of Bishop Markell of Ancyra.
