One Church Father comments on this verse

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

Overwhelmed by such cruelty, or perhaps burdened by such disgrace, she approached the threshold of the master where her spouse was staying. With her final breath, she remained devoted to her husband, ensuring he received a proper burial for her remains. When the light dispelled her indulgence, she returned to the elder's door—not to present herself to her husband, as she was too ashamed of the humiliation she had endured. Instead, she sought to communicate her love to him, having lost her purity, hoping to find closure in the sorrowful sight of her own dishonor.
