John Chrysostom
Why were they filled with astonishment upon hearing these words? Previously, this voice was heard at the Jordan among the congregation, yet none had experienced anything similar; and again afterward, when thunder rolled, as was noted, no one had encountered anything like that. What led them to prostrate themselves on the mountain? The reasons included the isolation and elevation of the site, the deep silence, the overwhelming transfiguration, the brilliant light, and the cloud enveloping them, all of which caused great fear. Remarkable phenomena surrounded them, and in their terror, they fell down and worshiped. However, to prevent their fear from lingering too long and clouding their minds, Christ quickly calmed their dread, revealing Himself solely to their eyes, and instructed them not to disclose the event until He had risen from the dead.
