The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Cyrill of Alexandria

5th centuryChurch Father

We are freed from the burden of our transgressions when Christ purifies and sanctifies us through His suffering; He gave His life for us, and "by His wounds we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5). He "bears our sins" (Isaiah 53:4) and serves as our Advocate before the Father, addressing "our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world," as the beloved John wrote (1 John 2:2). Thus, all purification, justification, sanctification, and redemption are found in Him. Forever and ever, may glory be given to Him, through Him, to God the Father, along with the Holy Spirit. Amen.
