    The Fathers read the verse as Paul's self-correction. John Chrysostom and Theophylact of Bulgaria have him say that this perfection is not his own but belongs to Christ who gave the strength. Theophan the Recluse adds: "Where the power of God is, weaknesses disappear." Tichon of Zadonsk concludes that with Christ's help what is impossible alone becomes possible.
