The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

You will have Me as your advocate. He further conveyed this by asserting, "And I will make My hand to wrath, and I will send My fury upon My hand; I, the Lord, have spoken unto you." Consequently, the blessed Jeremiah remarked, "We see, O Lord, that man's way is not his own, but a man shall go below and shall mend his ways" (Jeremiah 10:23), illustrating that such occurrences do not take place without divine assistance or authority. God operates by bringing forth what aligns with His purpose while allowing other actions to unfold in different manners, thereby honoring human free will and addressing transgressions through this means.
