    Christ names the highest degree of love and points to His own death. Theophylact of Bulgaria and Euthymios Zigabenos stress that He dies not from lack of affection or powerlessness, but out of perfect love, and the disciples are to lay down their lives for one another. Augustine of Hippo notes that Christ died even for enemies.
