    Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, although he be dead, shall live:

    Christ is Himself the resurrection and the life. John Chrysostom notes that He needs no one else's help, and Theophylact of Bulgaria stresses that He Himself has power to raise and give life. Believers still die bodily, yet death does not rule over them as over unbelievers. Cyrill of Alexandria speaks of endless life in blessedness.
