    For John Chrysostom, Theophylact of Bulgaria and Euthymios Zigabenos, the truth to be known is Christ Himself; the Law was only figure and shadow. The freedom He gives is freedom from sins. Symeon the New Theologian adds that the slave of sin has no self-mastery and becomes truly free only when the Son sets him free.
